5 Ubud Art Residencies

From secluded jungle retreats to bustling community spaces in the town center, Ubud's art residencies provide artists from around the world with the time, space, and resources to immerse themselves in their craft. These venues range from established institutions with structured programs to more informal setups that encourage free-form exploration. Many residencies in Ubud are deeply rooted in the local community, fostering cultural exchange and collaboration between visiting artists and Balinese artists and craftspeople. Whether a painter seeking to capture the island's vibrant colors, a writer drawing inspiration from ancient legends, or a performance artist exploring the intersection of traditional and modern forms, Ubud's art residencies offer a nurturing environment for artistic growth and cross-cultural dialogue. These spaces not only contribute to the individual artist's journey but also play a role in maintaining Ubud's status as a dynamic, ever-evolving center for the arts in Southeast Asia.

Here a few Ubud art residencies to look into if you’re interested in taking some time out for your art.

P.S. Many of the founders of these spaces have participated in past Ubud Open Studios, so plan to attend Ubud Open Studios before or after your residency!
