Discover Ubud's contemporary art scene right from artists’ studios.
The fifth edition of Ubud Open Studios runs June 5–7, 2026. More than 60 local and international artists, designers, and creatives open their studios across Ubud — a rare chance to see the actual spaces where the work gets made, not just the finished pieces.
Spanning multiple venues tucked through Ubud's streets, the event draws art collectors, travelers, and anyone curious about what's happening beyond the main galleries. You get access to the artists themselves — their stories, process, and work up close.
60+ Participating Studios
Architects, painters, photographers, ceramicists, illustrators, wood carvers, costume designers, jewelry designers, leather makers, printmakers, textile designers…
Ubud Open Studios is your chance to meet the minds behind the top creative studios and get an insider’s view of Ubud’s unique wealth of creativity and hidden worlds.
The art crawl format allows for a more personal and less intimidating approach to experiencing art. Engage in conversations with painters, sculptors, ceramicists, and multimedia artists as they demonstrate their craft in real time. This direct interaction fosters a deeper appreciation for the artistic process and the individuals behind the creations.
Ubud Open Studios is designed to be accessible and inclusive, weaving diverse artistic threads into a vibrant community tapestry. We invite you to immerse yourself in Ubud's creative landscape, one studio at a time.
Studio Showcase
at BIASA ArtSpace
We welcome you to the 5th edition of Ubud Open Studios. As you explore this showcase and the 60+ studios dotted throughout Ubud, we invite you to ask yourself a big question—what is art to you?
For centuries, the distinction between art and craft has been shaped through systems of cultural hierarchy—art positioned as intellectual and conceptual, while craft became associated with tradition, utility, and decoration. These divisions were never neutral. They determined which materials, practices, and communities were granted legitimacy, and which were excluded from the ‘art world’.
Ubud Open Studios challenges these definitions by refusing to position cultural mastery and conceptual practice as opposing forces. Across every medium, artists develop their work through repetition, experimentation, failure, intuition, and persistence.
This year’s showcase separates the studios’ exploratory practices from their final works—the mark making, scribbles, sketches, material tests, and unfinished experiments that reveal how ideas evolve before becoming resolved.
As you move through Ubud’s diverse studios, we encourage you to return to this question—or begin a conversation around it with others. Where do you draw the line between art and craft? Should there be one at all?
Why Ubud?
The curiosity about what goes into the art, the desire to see Balinese craft up close, predates the wellness retreats and yoga studios. Before Ubud became shorthand for a certain kind of holiday, people came here for the art.
That's still true. Painting, woodcarving, music, and dance are woven into daily life in a way that doesn't perform for tourists. You stumble across a gamelan rehearsal, watch a woodcarver work through his lunch break, and see offerings arranged with the same care as any gallery installation.
Ubud’s art history is documented in anthropology dissertations, films by well-known directors, and in museums around the world. This is a place where creativity isn’t just observed; it’s felt, shared, and celebrated daily.
