Studios with interactive experiences during the Open Studios event

Every year, studios go above and beyond to enrich attendees’ expereince when they visit. Many of the experiences are a surprise until you get there and it’s always fun to see the social media stories of people discovering something they never expected.

Throughout Ubud Open Studios, several artists extend beyond passive viewing or discussion to offer genuinely participatory experiences. Watch in fascination as a master textile artist transforms raw materials into intricate narrative scenes, then accept their invitation to try basic techniques yourself. Elsewhere, engage your senses in studios that blend visual art with complementary experiences—perhaps a hands-on collaborative art project, or a styling session. These interactive opportunities create meaningful connections between artist and visitor, allowing you to return home not just with memories of beautiful objects, but with embodied experiences.

Below are some of the past experiences created for Ubud Open Studios attendees.

1/ A special styling session and a chance to try precious batik textiles on at the studio of Pithecanthropus textile design and production.

2/ A collage making experience in the studio of Irene Febry. She had a whole station set up with pre cut pieces and glue so attendees could go straight to collaging!

3/ At Setia Cap Cili, Gianyar’s oldest textile studio, they let attendees try the weaving process directly on the looms.

4/ Pintu Saren Studio had a terracotta space set up for people to get their hands on the materials directly.

5/ Made Griyawan at Studio Gelombang invited attendees to pick up a brush and draw directly on past Ubud Open Studios banners to create a joint artwork and record of their visit.

These are just a handful of the studios offering interactive experiences when their doors open for Ubud Open Studios. Keep an eye out for social media posts showing you what’s available this year!
